Alan Howard ‘Barbershop’ Shave

Description of the course: A full day’s ‘hands on’ tuition from Kenyon Yates, of how to perform the perfect ‘Barbershop’ shave.

The aim of this course is: To cover and teach the technical skills required to achieve professional standards of shaving. The standards taught are linked to and taken from the National Occupational Standard

This course is suitable for: Ladies hairdressers/unisex hairdressers and barbers

Requirements: You do not need to have any hairdressing/barbering experience NOTE! - Beauticians can make excellent shaving students as they should already possess essential knowledge and understanding of skin types, health, safety and hygiene   

What is supplied: Specific handout booklet, special 14 stroke practice heads, stands, razors, blades, towels, gowns, brushes, protective gloves, some spare tools and refreshments. 

Tools you will need to bring: Note pad, pen and camera. There is no need to bring anything else as all razors, lather, brushes etc will be provided.

Model Required: You will need to arrange a model to arrive at 1 pm (models will need to stay for rest of afternoon and please inform them not to grow more than one day’s growth!)

Qualifications Gained: An Alan Howard Certificate of The Barbershop Shave attendance.

Theory or Practical: Both.

Description of the course: Our Classic Bridal and Prom Long Hair Dressing course has been developed and is delivered by the Alan Howard educational team who excel at the art of dressing hair up. It covers the classic, elegant and timeless looks that brides want to achieve and yet can be modernized with a twist or a braid for the prom looks that our younger clientele want.

The aim of this course is: To enable you to create the classic looks we will concentrate on the foundations of dressing long hair taking you through traditional but ever popular shapes like chignons and pleats.

This course is suitable for: All hairdressers who are just starting to offer bridal or prom styling or more experienced stylists that want to polish their skills in the more classic long hair dressing styles.

Requirements: NVQ – Level 1 and above.

What is supplied: Mannequin head to work on and education materials.

Tools you will need to bring: Scissors, combs, trimmers, hairdryers and straighteners. Model required – must be male, fairly young but not less than 14 years old and be willing to have design work done. Hair must be dark in colour and no less than 1 cm in length.

Qualifications Gained: A certificate endorsed by HABIA, recognizing CPD.

Theory or Practical: Both
