The Brunette Edit 2025: Trending Brunette Hair Colours of 2025
Published date 20 November 2025

In our last edit, we said that 2025 belonged to the blondes, but the brunettes were not far behind. This year, we saw rich, dimensional, and super glossy brunette shades, with soft, creamy mocha blends to warm, spice-infused hues. It’s safe to say, brunette has officially evolved beyond a single tone. This year especially, the trending brunette shades have centred around warmth, luxurious shine, and lots of dimension, making it perfect for clients wanting to switch up and customise their natural base.
In our 2025 brunette edit, we’re breaking down the brunette shades that dominated the salons, working with our Education Manager, Sara Simpson, so you can learn how to recreate them with your clients into the new year.
Espresso Martini Brunette

Deep, rich with soft, creamy dimension, Espresso Martini Brunette has been one of the most highly requested shades this year. With a deep espresso base paired with creamy beige or bronde ribbons for lifted brightness, it’s the perfect balance for clients who want depth with added radiance. This is the ultimate look for dark-haired clients wanting subtle lightness with a seamless regrowth - that’s right, it’s extremely low maintenance!
How To Create The Look:
- Lift the highlight ribbons using Quif Magi:light+ Premium 9+ Lightener.
- Apply Quif Magi:colour 5.1 root-to-tip on the non-lightened areas.
- Once the highlighted areas have been developed, your lifted ribbons should sit at a level 7 copper.
- Tone the ribbons using 7.73 + Demi Fuel for the perfect balanced brunette
- For a refresh service, gloss the ribbons with Magi:gloss 7.03 + 7.04 + a dash of 6.6, mixed with 1:1.5 Magi:gloss Activator for 20 minutes.
Molten Brunette

Molten Brunette became *the* expensive brunette shade of 2025, being glossy, luxurious and subtly multi-dimensional, with hints of chocolate, amber and mocha. Think melted shine and premium richness with a touch of luminosity. It’s low-maintenance, adaptable, and perfect for clients who want that liquid shine without the heavy colour contrast.
How To Create The Look:
- Taking Quint:essential, mix 5.7 (2 parts) + 5.34 (1 part) with Quasi Developer 1:1 and develop for 20 minutes for a soft-out with no harsh regrowth.
- For clients wanting to cover minimal greys, use 3%, and for clients wanting to cover 50%+ grey, switch the 5.7 with +5.7, from the +coverage collection with 3% developer for 45-60 minutes depending on resistance.
Mocha Mousse Brunette

Inspired by the Pantone Colour of the Year, Mocha Mousse is a soft, creamy brunette which has been huge in salons, especially for clients wanting something natural, subtle, and low-maintenance. With coffee, chocolate and reflective mocha tones, it’s perfect for natural brunettes who want an elevated upgrade to their locks.
How To Create The Look:
- Using Magi:colour, mix 7.73+7.13 parts with Demi Fuel for a natural, low-maintenance brunette.
- For clients with 30-75% grey, add 7.0 to the formula, so this would be: 20ml 7.0 + 10ml 7.73 + 10ml 7.13, using the chosen developer.
- For 75%+ grey, swap 7.0 to 7.00 to ensure a stronger grey coverage.
Pro Tip: Choose your developer based on target lift.
- 3% deposit
- 6% 1 level lift
- 9% 2-3 levels lift
- 12% 3-4 levels lift
Cinnamon Spice Brunette

Warm, fiery, with rich dimensional spice, Cinnamon Spice Brunette is the trending shade that blends warm browns with soft red undertones, creating dimensional ribbons of cinnamon, spice, and an added warm glow. It’s super flattering on medium to dark brunettes, and perfect for clients wanting a vibrant yet wearable warm brunette.
How To Create The Look:
- Add subtle foiled ribbons using Magi:light+ Premium 9+ Lightener.
- Take Magi:colour Magi:lights in Soft Beige, using 9% or 12% for clients around level 5 & 6
- In between foils, apply 30ml 6.77 + 5ml 6.5 with 3%
- For clients with 30-75% grey, add 6.0, and for clients with 75% grey, replace 6.0 with 6.00. This formula will then be 30ml 6.77 + 5ml 6.5 + 35ml 6.00, and develop for 45-60 minutes depending on resistance.
- Finish with Magi:gloss 6.04 for the ultimate glossy shine!

Through 2025, clients have been loving how light ribbons that add movement and brightness without losing their true brunette identity.
