The luxurious hair shade your brunette clients will be asking for…
Are your brunette clients craving a refresh now that it’s springtime? Then Liquid Brunette is the shade to have on your radar. Perfect for clients who feel like their colour has gone and a little flat or dull, this trending brunette shade is the perfect shade that naturally enhances their natural base. It’s all about elevating what your client has already got; bringing out those chocolatey, espresso tones and creating a glossy finish that gives the client an ultra-reflective shine. While this may be a subtle change, the impact is huge! Let’s dive into how you can create this trending hair shade with your clients this spring.
What is ‘Liquid Brunette’?

Liquid Brunette, also closely known as Expensive Brunette, is a deep, dimensional brunette shade that blends warm chocolate and mocha tones to create a multi-tonal, light-reflective finish that looks like liquid due to its high-shine powers. Giving your clients a soft, healthy and rich refresh of colour that elevates the hair immediately, your clients will have the ultimate glow up for their hair. It’s not about taking your client's hair lighter or darker, it’s about adding depth, shine and dimension. This is so the hair catches the light in all the right places. Plus, it’s super low-maintenance, making it the perfect choice for clients who want a luxurious result without the constant upkeep.
How to create ‘Liquid Brunette’ in your salon
We teamed up with our Quif Educator, Sara Simpson, to bring this trending shade to life using Quif Professional to achieve the best results possible. Firstly, achieving this look is all about prep, placement and tone.
It’s all in the prep
Sara recommends prepping the client's hair with Quif’s newly launched Prep Alkaline Shampoo and Quif’s Prime Acidic Porosity Balancing Primer. This is a must-have duo to have in your salon to ensure you achieve the best colour results possible. Sara tells us, “The Prep Shampoo works to remove mineral buildup that can interfere with colour, helping to prevent uneven lift or unwanted tones.” She also adds, “Make sure to follow up with the Prime Spray to balance porosity and smooth the hair's fibre, to allow for a more consistent, true-to-tone colour from root to tip.”
The process & application
When it comes to application, the goal of achieving liquid brunette is to build a soft, seamless dimension. Rather than heavy highlights, Sara suggests scattering delicate pieces throughout the hair using a mix of circular weaves and micro slices. This creates subtle ribbons of lightness that lift the overall look without taking away from the richness of the base.
To enhance the dimension, Sara recommends incorporating Magi:lights in Soft Gold. This will lift through your client's base without the need for lightener, giving the client that soft, hybrid effect that keeps the hair looking natural whilst being multi-dimensional. For colour, use Magi:gloss in 4:12 to establish that deep, glossy brunette tone. Apply this at the backwash before rinsing, and leave for 20 minutes.
Pro Tip: For that signature chocolate richness, add the tiniest drop of 0:66 red gloss to the 4:12 mix. This helps to subtly enhance the warmth and counteract any unwanted khaki tones, leaving behind a silky, balanced finish. Rinse, blow dry and watch the liquid brunette trend come to life!
The final result

The finish look is everything clients are asking for now: glossy, dimensional and effortlessly luxurious. The hair will appear fuller and shinier, and of course, super refreshed for the new season. It’s the perfect way to upgrade your brunette clients' look without pushing them too far outside their comfort zone, and once they see the results, they’ll be hooked. Plus, this is the perfect way to keep your brunette clients coming back every 6-8 weeks for a gloss top-up service!
The Ultimate Brunette Upgrade
Liquid Brunette proves that sometimes the smallest of changes to your client's hair can make the biggest difference. By focusing on shine, hair health, tone and subtle dimension, you can completely transform how your clients' hair looks and feels. So, if your brunette clients want something new, but in the most subtle way, you know exactly what to recommend!
