The Riviera Bob embraces a natural shape that’s all about movement, soft volume, and subtle texture, that still incorporates a blunt cut for a statement-making finish. Being a chin-length bob, the cut sits just below the jawline. It involves soft, long layering to keep the body, as well as a blunt shape that still maintains a voluminous finish. It’s the perfect cut for clients wanting a low-maintenance yet luxury look with a polished finish. The best part? This cut grows out into a stunning lived-in long bob that's just as wearable! Let’s dive into how we created this trending cut…

Start with a hot cross bun sectioning technique, ear to ear across the crown. Twist and isolate the front sections to allow focus on the back of the hair. A neat section allows you to be more precise and have a greater balance.

Using the Alfa Italia Mancino scissors for our left-handed artist, begin with 1-inch sections, cutting freehand using loose tension to follow the hair’s natural movement, to create an A-line blunt cut. Continue this technique through each section all the way to the crown.

Move to the sides, again cutting 1-inch sections, and repeat on both sides, working up towards the parting. Keep the cut blunt with minimal tension for that polished shape.

Top Tip: Use the wider side of your comb to maintain minimal tension.

Whilst this is completely down to the wants of your client, we decided to add a soft bang to our client's Riviera Bob. This is perfect for finishing the look off with extra added softness and definition.

For the perfect layered bang, take centre point 0, and direct the hair upwards. Establish the desired length of the bang, and remove any weight to create that soft finish. Connect centre point 0 to section point 1 and cut to ensure a soft movement as the hair lies down. Then, taking section point 2, connect this back to section point 0 to create that subtle angled shape. Repeat throughout the fringe area for that Riviera signature softness.

With the perfect cut comes the perfect finish! For this look, we used the Inflatable Volume Boost Blow Dry Gel all over damp hair to add that oomph to the final look. Using a round brush, smooth and lift the hair from the roots for ultimate volume. Focus on directing the hair around the face to enhance the cut’s natural angles and movement. And voila!
